It is thought that the build-up of free radicals over time may be largely responsible for the aging process. Free radicals can also contribute to the development of poor health.

    Serious deficiencies in vitamin C are rare today in highly developed societies; however, it is common that mild deficiencies exist. Smokers are usually at a higher risk of vitamin C deficiency than most. Low levels of vitamin C have been associated with a number of conditions. Eating lots of fruits and vegetables with vitamin C is very important. The evidence that taking vitamin C supplements will help or prevent any of these diseases is disputed by some and by many thought to be beneficial.
